seeing double

We're having identical twins.  This is very rare in the world of IVF... one percent was what we were quoted today... just before the doctor jokingly told us we could have been pregnant with four since this rarity occurred!  So this is different than what we expected but we're used to surprises at this point.

The big relieving news today was that they are in separate amniotic sacs.  This might not mean much to you but we were a bit worried that they were sharing an amniotic sac which can be quite dangerous according to google.  They are in one big gestational sac nestled up close to one another and their hearts are ticking nice and fast.

We are officially released from the fertility clinic.  It. feels. so. good.

Oh the original Parent Trap... it's always been one of my favourites... maybe there was a reason for that!  via

  2. Hahaha too funny! We are so not going to be those people though with matching children who look like little clone babies! Andrew is determined that they will each have their own stuff!

  5. Congratulations! I'm so glad your babies each have their own "room", gestationally speaking. We don't dress our boys the same either, nor do their names start with the same letter or *shudder* rhyme. You'd be surprised at how many people asked us if we were going to dress our identicals the same and our fraternal different. Who would ever do that?? People are weird to a frightening degree.

  10. How cool is that!? Congratulations on the twinnies and on graduating! That is a huge relief! Are doctors not able to tell if all twins are fraternal or identical until this far along or yours was just a special case? I'm assuming ours are fraternal since we implanted 2 and I saw 2 sacs.
