hello dolly bars take two...what are you baking for christmas?

At this point I am thinking that I will be able to do some Christmas baking.  Yes... it may mean coercing several relatives over to my house at once so that there will be several free hands for Isla and Alice while I attempt to not screw up a recipe (yes... I tend to do this often... hence why I needed to marry a man who can cook)...

Last year my attempt at baking hello dolly bars was a big fail... and I really have no idea where I went wrong.  This recipe looks so easy one would think you could make it after a bottle of wine... apparently pregnant and completely sober wasn't enough for me... but this year, I'll get it right (I hope)...

Second on my baking to-do list... whole wheat gingerbread cookies... my neighbor brought over a plate of these and they were delicious... too delicious in fact as we devoured the plate in a couple of days.  I plan on adding some red sprinkles to make them more festive.

I'm curious... do you have good baking intentions like I do and actually follow through with them?  What is your favourite thing to make when it comes to holiday baking?

  5. I could not get into baking this year but then I was invited to a cookie bake tomorrow. A bunch of moms get together after they take their kids to school and bake cookies all day long. I am the only one with a baby and she is coming with me so we will see how it goes, but I am super excited to bake cookies and get some new recipes! There also might be some festive holiday cocktails involved.... ;)

I ate them all in two days. Dangerous!!!!

  8. @Kelly - a cookie bake sounds like a good plan. Hopefully your little one makes it easy for you tomorrow, at least there will be tons of moms to help out!

@Courtney - two days = very dangerous!!! I think I will freeze a lot of the baking right away to keep it away from me!

@ Heather - okay I am now adding coconut macaroons to my list!

  10. oooh looks delicious! We had a cookie exchange at work - bring in 4 dozen cookies and then leave with a mix of everyone's cookies. It was a huge score, and I had them all on hand to serve at this weekend's Christmas party!

  11. I'm baking zuccini bread because it's easy and I can't screw it up.

OK, scratch that--I did screw it up over Thanksgiving because hubby measured out all the ingridients and accidentally measured out powdered sugar instead of flour o_O

I've also made kolachky (an Eastern European fruit filled cookie) but it took forever and only two people besides me and my husband ate them at the Christmas gathering. :P I won't make those unless I know for sure people will eat them!

  12. this year I've decided to give baked goods as presents. Wrapped by me and decorated with craft I made with Baby C. well... none of the baking has actually taken place yet!!! I have though bought all the ingredients and wrapping supplies.

I'll let you know how it goes.

    Good luck with your plans!!
