my 50 000 word lofty goal

When is it a good time to commit to writing a 50 000 word book in one month?  (okay let's say 50 000 word mess of something that may or may not ever resemble a book)  Two years ago I first read about NaNoWriMo and I told myself that if our upcoming IVF cycle got pushed to the new year I would do it... but then (thank god) it didn't and we did and well you know what happened from there.  Last year I was a human cow... a self made human cow... who constantly had a baby on the boob and when I didn't... well I can't even remember when I didn't... so that was not the right time either.  Now I have two, wait make that four under two year olds to watch, care for, love every day (operation daycare in case you're wondering) ... but then there's just the four of us (two babies + a husband/daddy + me) after five... and then there's just us two after six... since our little ladies go to bed at six.  So from six until ten I have time.  Normally this time is spent eating, enjoying a glass... sometimes two of wine, going to the gym (but not nearly enough) and catching up on the shows that we watch.

I think I can give up most of that for a month (well not the eating... likely not the wine)... but the rest of it... I think so.  Maybe I am being ridiculously naive... I mean I 'word counted' my last post and there were over 800 in there and to meet the 50 000 word goal I need to be writing at least 1667 words a day... so right now I am thinking it's doable.  I mean next year the girls might go to bed a bit later and the year after that we might be bringing them to an activity... who knows...

I have been secretly wanting to do this ever since I read about it.  I was/am kind of scared to even admit that I want to do it... and even more so to commit to doing it (so I am not um officially committing to anything).  I did go through and read some of the years' previous pep talks, some written by authors that I truly love and many of them said that (in not so many words) they think writing 50 000 words in a month is very difficult, something they themselves would not do, or attempt but they did say that if you want to write, you need to do it every single day.  So the goal here would be to write 50 000 words, not to write a book.

Last week I read this and this post and they might just have given me the push I needed to do something lofty... something outside of my bubble.

ps. that was 482 words

what do you think?  would you do it or do you have a secret goal?

  2. I think you should do it!! I have always wanted to write a book, but I lack the good, original idea. But I think doing something like this would help spark the creative juices and get things going. I might have to think about doing this... :)

  4. That's a lot of words...I think I would run out of things to say. But you're a strong writer and I'm sure you could go on about how adorable your girls are for aleast a good 20,000 words, RIGHT?
